MULTI-ROOM COMFORT
One outdoor unit. Comfort across the home.
A carefully designed Daikin multi-split system can connect multiple indoor units to one outdoor unit, giving individual room control while reducing the number of outdoor units around the property.
Current Daikin capability
Daikin's current UK Multi page states that up to five indoor units can connect to one outdoor unit. Every actual project must still be selected against the specific outdoor unit, connected capacities, pipe lengths and manufacturer design limits.
Designed for Multi-Room Comfort
Ideal for London homes
Loft + master + rear bedroom + office + kitchen extension; whole-home refurbishments; properties where several outdoor condensers would be visually or spatially undesirable.
Interactive house graphic
Create a cutaway London house showing 3–5 indoor units on different floors connected to one outdoor unit. Tap each room to show its independent controller and indicative unit style.
Independent room control
Explain that rooms can be individually controlled, while system-wide operating constraints depend on the chosen multi-split architecture. Avoid implying simultaneous heating in one room and cooling in another unless the selected system supports it.
Room-by-room sizing
Each room gets its own calculated requirement; indoor units do not all need to be the same capacity.
Pipework engineering
Show branch routes, insulated copper, maximum/equivalent lengths, vertical separation and additional charge as manufacturer-dependent design checks.
Condensate strategy
Gravity drainage preferred; pumps only where needed. Plan routes before decorating.
Outdoor-unit position
Roof, extension roof, rear/side area or other suitable position subject to airflow, access, noise and planning.
First fix during refurbishment
Strong commercial section for builders/homeowners: install pipework, drains, cables and penetrations before finishes, then return for second fix.
Electrical design
Dedicated supply and protection designed/tested by SOL electricians; coordinate maximum demand with EV, solar, battery and other loads.
Solar + battery
Cross-link to Solar + AC and Battery Storage; multi-room AC increases future electricity demand and should be considered in solar sizing.
Installation process — from enquiry to commissioning
01
Enquiry
Rooms, property type, postcode, intended use, plans/photos, single vs multiple rooms and whether solar/battery/EV works are planned.
02
Site survey
Measure rooms and glazing; assess orientation, solar gain, insulation, occupancy, indoor/outdoor unit positions, pipe/drain routes, electrical supply and access/scaffold requirements.
03
Heat gain / load design
Calculate room-by-room cooling and heating requirements before equipment selection. Do not size from floor area alone.
04
System design & proposal
Confirm capacities, Daikin indoor/outdoor equipment, pipe lengths, condensate strategy, controls, electrical works, access and itemised scope.
05
Access / scaffolding
Arrange suitable access for roof/high-level outdoor equipment and external pipe routes where required.
06
First fix
Install insulated refrigeration pipework, condensate drainage, interconnections, containment, penetrations and dedicated electrical supplies. Coordinate before plastering/decorating where possible.
07
Second fix
Mount indoor/outdoor units, make refrigeration/drain/electrical connections, install isolators/controls and complete containment.
08
Refrigeration commissioning
Pressure/tightness testing, evacuation, refrigerant commissioning/additional charge where required, condensate testing and heating/cooling operational checks.
09
Electrical commissioning
In-house electricians test dedicated circuits, protection, isolation and earthing and issue applicable electrical certification.
10
Handover
Set up controls/app, explain modes/timers/filter care, provide documents and discuss servicing/warranty requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Daikin's current residential Multi range includes outdoor units capable of serving up to five indoor units. The maximum number is not the only design consideration: each combination must comply with the selected outdoor unit's permitted connected capacity, indoor-unit combinations, pipe lengths, vertical separation and other manufacturer limits. We therefore design the system room by room and then select the appropriate outdoor unit rather than choosing a five-port unit simply because five rooms exist.
